Wow, that seems weird but I guess it's 18 years old.
I remember going to the junkyard when I was 17 to get parts for my 9 year old Scirocco and there were always tons of Rabbits and Sciroccos there around the same age. _________________ How to Post Photos

It's amazing to me how excited everyone was when the new beetles came out, what 20-25 years ago. Now, you don't see them on the road anymore. They vanished quickly. I will say that I rented a new beetle on a trip in 2013. After driving that POS, it's not hard to see why they vanished. _________________ Contact me at [email protected]

Found this 1960 bug in N/C Texas in a field of mostly post 1970 VW's.
Bought it and took it home, eventually found the chassis near by at the house of another VW guy. Ended up selling it because the wifey said I had "too many projects",

I wonder what that is. |
It's the remains of my neighbour's Beetle. It had been there as long as I can remember. It looked like this before they fell a bunch of trees on it.

Found this pre 1959 Beetle chassis sticking out of a local riverbank this May. I think the body is still buried in the ground. I could still see parts of the engine compartment trays and the underside of the luggage area.
The surrounding area was littered with the remains of many cars from the 1950's. All put there long ago to prevent bank erosion.
|
Last year I found the above chassis along a local riverbank. This year I went back to explore the area and see what else I could find. Wouldn't you know it... I found 2 more pre '59 Beetle chassis.
One was sticking out of the riverbank and anther was along the shoreline. The one on the shoreline was really disintegrated. Most of the year it's submerged under water. Being that it's summertime, the water level is low and it was exposed.

This one's not in a traditional field, but is returning to earth. Without seeing the condition of the floors and other of the typical body rot areas, this one would be a "solid" restoration basis for us in the NorthEast of the USA. Active death foam.
