Hi guys, old lady ran into van other day, middle of van on other side of cargo doors but damaged my back wheel
Just quickly measuring with a tape it seems like the back left has been pushed back approx 10mm towards the rear bumper.
I know with beetle springplates there is that amount of adjustment. Do they have the same amount of adjustment on split/ reduction box plates? Could I have been lucky and all I need to.do. is loosen bolts and slide it back? |

10mm on the springplate holes - absolutely no way! maybe a mm or so.
I'd suspect the end of the torsion tube has been bent, where the spring plate cover fits with the four bolts....
Sounds like it's a sucky situation |

I got hit on the right rear Big Nut and it bent the cradle over to the left side a little. It had that same effect as moving back. |

I suggest buying a Bentley workshop manual. I found in section H-10 that there actually is some rear wheel alignment adjustability. The manual suggests elongating the spring plate holes. I think this would only allow a caster change (how far forward or back the wheel sits in the wheelwell).
It also mentions "sheet metal" shimming between "the center flange of the rear cross member and the front transmission mounting" to adjust toe. I would post a pic of the manual but not sure about copyrights. Get the book.
Hope this helps.
