Scotty , is it true that Paul used a NOS chassis for this bus?? |
He did not use new chassis, he made one himself.

How bout it Paul let's here what you have to say about the ressurection
The pics are great. It's deffinately a work of art. You must have a serious amount of patience. This bus makes those Columbian busses look like a walk in the park |

Very good job saving this one
after Magnus had sent me the photos of this one, I really thought it would have been parted due to being told the middle seat and bumpers with trim had been sold.
What a great effort to save this rare Samba and of course to get her driving again!!! |

No doubt about that. A great original Bus with a horrible lower foot or a Frankenstein that resembles an aluminum can that got crushed and then someone tried to pull it back into shape... _________________ Please check us out on Instagram at @holygrailgarage

after seeing a couple of "Really Wasted" columbian Barndoors in front of me I have to say Paul's Samba would be a "Nice walk in the Park" as far as metal work goes
There was a columbian deluxe I saw and a few of you have here have also seen and man just about every piece of metal on that bus was twisted, warped, stretched.....then throw in the hacks....the rot.....it kind of looked like it was rolled down a mountain and then set on fire....poor thing.
Looking at the photos of Paul's Samba makes me want to go to the local pub and have a few pints!!....cheers Paul!!! great job!! |

the story of what's happen with the barndoor of Paul is the dream for a lot people(certainly for me). What is more beautifull than a ressurection of a rusty car(van)staying in the woods for many years????I'm not shure that you have the same feeling and sensation with the resto of a wrecked columbian bus with the description above in this forum.I remember that Owen from England(one of the person who's finding a few barndoor samba in Sweden!!)tells me that 5 or 7 years ago,was cutting the front face of a deluxe '51 in the woods in sweden..not shure that's today it will be the same again....what a chance for the Paul's one that his destiny was not on the way of the cutting boys...one think is that today the value of the pre 55 isn't the same of 7 years ago.....
I think that the ressurection of the Barndoor of the woods and the restoration is one of the most impressive think that i have seen this last years:complete chassis restoration with keeping all the beautifull nice patina...It 'll be the NEW trend for the further years.
A lot of owners called their cars patina when they are completely rusty...and maybe die... i want to see lovely faded paint(prouved the life that the car had)with the checking of all security organ.
This is for me the real value of the REAL patina cars
Many for what Paul's made

Im not saying the chassis work is easy but in all the welding I have done in the past , I would say that all the lower inner and outer parts of the shell are alot harder, the chassis is thick and you can get on with it, but all the sills and floors and corners etc is the pain in the arse stuff.
Paul must have had to do alot of that and not to many pics of that stuff yet.

Didn't Magnus Wiksten find that bus originally? I think I remember when he first told me he found it and sent me picture..I could be mistaken but that looks super familar. _________________ I own a copy of "The Car of the Century" by Garwood. This is one bad ass bus. Too bad it's a Deluxe , but it's got character and has risen from the dead! This is one bus, and the owner or resurrector, which should be recognized for their time, patience, skills and heart for getting this beast back on the road! My burritto goes up in the air for you Paul. (Kosher Burritto!)
Another kid who should be recognized is Niels Timmerman (NO, he's not a Front Wheel Skid) of the Undutchables. He's got one of those Columbian beasts which he has taken on. LOTS OF F*CK'N work, but this kid is taking it on!!! I plan on visiting Holland this June to witness this beast first hand.
Anyone who resurrects one of these rare birds should get a pat on the back and a cold pint too!

Spectacular job! That project took some real balls to tackle. Way to go!
I think this bus should be given a name like all the other famous BD's out there. This should be "The Phoenix Bus" given its rise from the ashes and all. |
