On my '70 Ghia I have the rear-air defrost port and a rear-windshield that has a now useless grid on it. I'm not sure which way to go on this. I could just hook up the air defrost and hope it works well enough on those random nights/mornings, although this car isnt meant to be my daily I would like the availability of it as a daily. Or I could get a replacement grid kit, I forgot the name of the one I found but it comes with the grid and relays and connectors and whatnot. I think the kit is about $50-70.

So what do you guys think?

Sometimes you can repair your grid. I believe I've seen a repair kit at Pep-Boys. Just take your volt meter and test line by line until you find a break. Make sure your defrost relay is working first! We fixed my brothers Eclips GSX this way

I say get them both working. If the electric fails you always have the air defrost as a back-up when you need it. I think Eastwood or Eastbrook (?) sells a kit.

Grid repair is easy.

If you close all the vents in the heating system (rear seat and front footwells) you get more then enough air out of the front and rear defrost. Just keep a towel handy to wipe up moisture.

The company I got my rear window defrost grid from was http://frostfighter.com/ It came with good instructions and everything needed. The only draw back to it is that the grid lines don't follow the wrap around curve of the window. The next one I do, I will apply the wires individually to match the curve of the window. If you do use the kit you will have some extra of the wire grid, save some of it incase you damage one of the grid wires. I pitched the extra and now I need a piece to repair one that i screwed up.
