Barndoor snobbery at it's finest! 20 years ago I remember it was somewhat of a trend to put pressed bumpers on a 59-61 bus. If there was a post barndoor registry consisting of 55-61 buses how would those buses made to look earlier be viewed? What Gerson is selling are real Barndoors plain and simple. They should be in Tonny's registry end of statement! At the rate Gerson is cranking out replacement panels, I wouldn't be surprised in another 10 years at how nice some of the South American barndoors will look finished, people will definetly have a change of mind and heart, but it will take a few of them to set a standard to do this!

so let me get this straight, you are saying that the BD's anywhere outside of Europe, the U.S., and other "first world" countries should not even be considered BDs???????............MOST if not ALL BDs outside the "first world" will most likely be in this condition, so it's a "shame" they are around, and it's a shame they are being counted as BDs???????????????hey Tony, did I miss something???where on your site does it say, ONLY BDs that are in good condition, or come from "wealthy" countries can be registed/counted Confused Confused Confused Confused Confused Confused Confused Confused Confused Confused

Hi Gerson.

As I said earlier, ALL barndoors will be listed on my page. Very Happy
I have no restriction, as long as I have chassis number and it is below 20-117902.

Please explain, I am registering all barndoors.

Regards Tonny

Hi Tonny- I believe he is suggesting that most of the South American Barndoors are so bad that it's a shame that they are even being counted as Barndoors at all. He's suggesting that they aren't worthy of being listed on your site.

I KNEW IT! It's now in the open! Linda is RockStock! Didn't I tell you guys!!! You know what I mean, RIght?

A Barndoor is a Barndoor! My 54 looked TORE BACK when I got it! It cleaned up quite well. REALLY!

Just because I can clarify the essence of what Rockstock is conveying doesn't mean he and I are the same person, it just means that I can translate English to English, buey!

i wasn't commenting as harshly as that

i am suggesting that most Columbian Barndoors are a little beat-up, and that it could be regarded as a shame that they drag the average quality of bd.dk down

of course they should be listed on bd.dk - its really interesting to see them.
a couple of nice ones have been found (ie neils'?) - but you have to really know what you’re looking at
we all know many are hideously disfigured and missing lots of rare parts
- to the point where people wondered initially whether they were real barndoors
some have left some unsuspecting new owners in a real quandary
i suspect owners would speak up if they were't so (understandably)concerned about their investment (anyone plse chime in?)
cptglen's photos & captions were a breath of fresh air, as they tell it as it is

i'd like to see one at a UK show, driven as is

Johnny - not exactly a nightmare resto! or were you having a bobble hat?

what % original metal by the time it’s repaired?
how many missing parts? how much will it have cost? how much time?
(nothing new here I know. you guys know the score)

plus points are they give more people the opportunity to own a bd
& they’ll help keep gerson in business/producing bd repair panels for a while

I'm always having a giraffe Mate! ( Linda in disguise!! Laughing )

My 54 did need allot of work! Pictures are very misleading. Though I will admit, it was super beat down like others I have seen. Lots of part were missing and whatever parts were on or came with the bus were bullshit parts! Sure, all of the BS parts could have been used, but I didn't. I had a stash put away for this bus, and other future projects. And I had this beast before this went crazy!! The Barndoors. I am also glad I got all the bits before hand too! Or I would have been turning tricks right now.

As far as welding goes..........very little. Just covering holes and minor rust repairs. When this was for sale some time back, no one wanted to pay the asking price. Everyone thought the owner was crazy! Though he was!! Very Happy So I worked something out with him and I ended up with it!!
I remember this buddy of mine telling me it was a piece of shit!! And why I bought it???? Some years down the road it turned out to being a MONSTER and won Best Barndoor at the 36th Annual BDM BBQ!!! It also won lowest Barndoor and Best Kombi Barndoor as well. Wink (having a giraffe) This bus did come a long way. REALLY!

BTW RockStock, the disco bus actually came out of a town called San Juan De Los Morros in Venezuela, it was a second owner, deep skylight pressing bus, it still had the original paint under the disco orange paint scheme, the original belly pans etc, etc...I drove that bus from Venezuela to Colombia, should have never sold that bus, got my ass handed to me when I put it up for sale here on the samba, eventually had to give it away, it is now in the U.K., word has it, it will be at Bad Camberg later on this year.........

Hey RockStock, the disco bus made it out to Camberg huh?????? Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy all the way from the U.K.
