|
|
Hi,
I'm new to Ghias - got a 64 devon Split camper, and I'm looking at getting a Ghia to go with it.
I'd ideally like a Vert ( no later than 1970) in great condition, but probably can't afford a really good one!
I've seen this coupe..
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=396894
It sounds great........anyone seen it?
Can't go and view it myself as I'm in the UK!
What do you think?
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated
Cheers,
Nick |

Its overpriced.
Its not really a car for a collector, as it has been modified. Also, if I was going to shell out $17k for a non-low light or non-covert Ghia I would want one restored to OG condition, including a more desirable (and expensive) original interior and not some off the shelf cheap ass TMI interior. Also, where's the firewall instullation? That thing must be as loud as a freight train.

Just remember rust over engine. Try to get a peak underneath looking at the rocker panels.
That one looks nice, but without any pictures underneath, it makes me nervous. A coat of paint can make many a rust bucket look like a million bucks on e-bay.
I'm just saying, I keep finding more rust on mine, but didn't pay anywhere near that price. BTW: I want a welder and welding skills for x-mas. |

Just something to consider - the 1960 model has the most one-year only parts. I'm not certain if this one has all the right bits or not, but if it doesn't - and that sort of thing is important to you - then it could get costly and frustrating to find what you need.
Also, if a convertible is what you really want, then don't "settle" for a coupe because you will never really be completely satisfied. (Just my opinion.)
As as aside, (refering to the seller's words) is anyone else surpirsed at how many of the world's finest Ghias have come up for sale lately? |

Thanks for your advice!
I could get it for a bit less than the asking price, but still too high?
In the UK I can't find anything........but there is this lowlight convertible on ebay - it's in Germany.....

That first link you posted is being sold by some shister, I wouldn't buy it, or take the sellers word for its condition. He/she posted the car on ebay, got it bid up to 13 or 14k and then pulled the auction for an "error in the listing"
Then he turns around and posts the car here for 17k?? Sounds like he used ebay to determine his selling price...Or he is a scammer taking deposits from multiple people.... |

Shipping that car from the US to the UK would be a killer as far as cost to ship it. If I were you, I'd be patient for one to pop up near where you live, that way you can actually SEE it for yourself before you lay any money down. Good things come to those who wait _________________ oo9less since 2007

Yeah, your probably right, but I bought my bus from Australia ( one previous owner) and it all went well - she's a beauty!
There's always a large slice of luck involved in buying from photos only - so if anyone knows of a good un let me know

Hallo Nick
The red lowlight vert is for sale for a couple of mounths now.
It is advertized on E-bay 4 or 5 times and here on thesamba, but never reached his minimun of €28.000.

No I haven't seen it, but the car is discussed here and on the German forum.
It certainly isn't worth €28.000
That's the reason why it's for sale for a couple of months now.
I haven't followed it anymore. The first time the bidding went up to 24.000 euro's and after that the bidding was getting less and less. I thought the last time the bidding when up to 11.000 and not more
