1967 with stock Solex 30 Pict 1 Carb, one year generator, and one year oil bath air cleaner. Missing is the small air cleaner bracket that attaches it to the bottom of the carb/top of manifold input.

Later edit..I am changing the pictures to my "new" 67 engine with more of the proper pieces such as fuel pump and coil

Since there hasn't been any pics of a 1300 i figured i would add a picture of mine. It's in my '66 bug and this is the numbers matching engine that came in the car from the factory.

My 1970 Deluxe Bus, T1

Still working on getting a few missing pieces.

One major difference that I have noticed is the metal fuel line, most that I see have a soft line & clamp where I have metal line with some sort of nut. see below.

Not a thread, an article in the tech sections> http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/engine_letters.php

This must come up every 3rd day, at least.

The pic from the 70 deluxe is missing a few pipes. Just thought i'd clarify what should (and shouldn't!) be in there Smile

Warm air inlet pipe is missing. THis should connect to a "stove pipe" bit of tinwear to gain the hottest air available when the engine is cold. This is to increase fuel vaporisation and prevent carb icing whilst the heat risers warm up. This is the bit that most VW mechanics throw out. Item 2 on this microfiche from Mr Atwell's site Smile

Additionally, the warm air thermostat connection is missing. THis is a bicycle cable type affair from the thermostatic flaps. Ther are 2 types of oil bath filter, one mechanically controlled, one vacuum controlled. This one is mechanical. Look in the bottom left hand corner of the microfiche at items 40 - 42

The oil filler neck brether pipe is missing, item 11 on the fiche

And there is a fuel filter in the engine bay!!!!!!

Thanks Marv! I have done a good bit of cleanup/replacement since then. Still not sure about the cable/tstat flaps. Id like to see a pic of one correct if possible. Thanks Samba

'65 and earlier engines use a metal fuel line inlet, although most engines have been updated over time.

Yes, it looks like a brake line. Smile

Hi all,

That fuel pump in the photo (dome-top and threaded inlet with a threaded nut metal fuel inlet line) is correct I believe up through 1968 or '69 Type 2. There are photos of it in the 1968 T2 owners manual. Not sure if it went thru 1970 though. It was eventually replaced with the later pump that has a top held on by 4 screws, has a cone shaped internal fuel filter screen behind a big brass nut/cap, and both the inlet and outlet pipes on the pump are brass pipes that a rubber fuel line connects to. Get out your 1970 Bus owners manual and look for photos of the type of pump you should have.
