I'll carry on with the hijack! Do later semaphores fit the split shell? I've got one and a half broken split semaphores, but I can get hold of '53-'60 semaphores much easier. The car isn't going to be original, so can I use the later ones until I find the cash for correct ones? _________________ '67/'68 Cal Look Beetle, 2007cc, 48IDFs, 14.4 @ 93mph, Oct 2017.

There are 4 different shapes on lenses. (Pre '49, 1949-52, 1953-60 & vert.) And they are all specific to which semaphore you are using. Then there are 2 brands which do not interchange with each other (SHO & SWF) Smooth semaphores (1953-60) will accept the smooth style lenses. Color doesn't matter, so either one will fit. Yellow is for later cars, Orange color for earlier cars _________________ 1947 Typ 11a

I would argue that the left/right semaphores are found only up through late (mid December) 1949 production and not on cars produced after that time.
If so, that moves your description from Pre 49 to Pre '50, 50-52, 53-60, and vert. The possible descrepency here are Hebmullers.
Does an early Heb (1949) versus a later Heb (ex. 1951) also have the L/R semaphores in convertible profile or are all Heb semaphores interchangeable from side to side but convertible profile? |

Hebmullers use the same size semaphorer as the sedans. So I would agree with Rare Air on the four differnt shapes of lenses.

Upto 49 Directional Left and Right.
late 49-53 with orange lenses & vert till 52 (SHO)
54-55 Orange lenses (SWF)

Thanks Carlos. All I know about semaphores has been from what you have told me the last few years. _________________ 1947 Typ 11a

What is the story with the early vert pre 52 ones? I thought they were the same as sedans but I have been told they are shaped more curved to match body lines. My 50 vert was missing the semifore and I had bought the 50 up sedans ones. Do I now have to look for the unatanable? |
