i have a 73 bug tranny pushin 30" wildcats and reverse is out of it. its horrible! i can go wheelin with no reverse (well i have been using a come-along!) anyways, i was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on what kinda tranny i should put in it as a replacement, or if there is a tranny better built for pushin 30's. _________________ greasy hands, beater car, and no cash |

Or just do a Bus converion. The 002 (aka 3-rib) Bus trannies are much lower geared and will work well for pulling 30 inch tires. They are also much stronger. Keep in mind however, ALL VW trannies have weak reverse gears. Be gentle with that one.

Is that the premade aluminum shifter coupling? How does it work? I haven't heard too much good about them.
I just made my own by welding two bug couplers on top of each other and welding some plates to it to make sure it doesn't bend. |
