There are quite a few internet shops selling the plates. I am pretty sure that there are only one or two guys acutally making them. I went with:

Custom Engraving Company, aka www.autoplates.com

I talked with a gal named Jaime who was real helpful. I had a few special requests about the number spacing, leaving off the modern tag decal.

Here are the reproduction plates. They are embossed aluminum and the font and sizing looks good. The seal is a decal and I think incorrect for the "312" plate.

So you get to punch out the mounting slots AFTER the plates are finished?
Yikes, I wouldn't like to have that job. Be careful!

Groeten, Niels

Mijn Nederlandse taal is zeer slecht.

Added a few photos to the home page. The new photos are the ones I got from a friend that checked it out for me prior to purchase.

Jeff- I'm assuming that those old pics are not in the driveway of the house on Estrella St. where I first spotted the Bus many years ago?

Hey Brendan, The pix are from the owners place in LA. I don't have any photos from its life in San Diego. Did you happen to snap some shots back in the day?

Thanks

Sorry Jeff, didn't even have a camera way back then. I think that 10 Foot Doug The Head and I are the only two guys that ever saw it over on Estrella St. way back then. Kevin Z. (coolrydes) also said something about seeing it driving around that neighborhood way back too, he lived really close to it back then.

I had to look twice too!

It's logical VW didn't have a lot of colors too choose from back then.
SWR/CB looks just soooo right!

Bus looks awesome!
