Very nice job on your Volksrod. A lot of your photos are not showing up, can you please repost them so we can see the great work you did?

This weekend I marked where the roof cuts will be. I welded some bracings for the body then dove head first and cut the front half off.

How did you measure your roof to make the cuts to the chop top? I am going to start a Volksrod project, which I want to chop the roof like yours is.

Goose, first of all: WOW. This is your vision. We can all have our own opinion of what and how. WHO CARES!! I love it.

And second, if I need or want a side exit exhaust like you have, do I have to build it or is there anyone selling them?

Did I say... I love it? I LOVE IT!!

To install you do have to cut the door seal a bit to allow the set screws to tighten. The passenger one is useless becasue they have very limited movement and I can't adjust it enough. The 3" is pretty small maybe the 4" would work better or a different mounting point. No problems with the doors closing or the mirrors rubbing on anything.

For your exhaust. You can buy mandrel bent tubes of different sizes, radii, and shapes to make a better looking connector pipe.

Hey Bugger!

No Secret Squirrel here. I guess I haven't really taking a picture of the engine. Nothing fancy.

Here are the specs:

1915cc
94 mm pistons
Deck height .087
Head cc is 62 cc for a 7.2 compression
stock stroke 69mm
stock length rods
Crank and rod bearings are standard size align bored first cut .020 and 1 mm thrust

Here is an old picture from long ago. Looks about the same now, except the exhaust. Any wallet friendly Ideas to make it look/work/feel better are welcomed.

Here's the mirrors abd adapter clamp you'll need

I went with the 3" ones

brad

Thanks Brad!

How was the install? Did you have to mod anything? Any issues with doors not closing right or not water sealed right? Why is the passenger one useless? Would a 4" ones make a difference?

Sorry about so many questions, but I like to be informed as much as possible.

Looks good Goose! Just my 2 Cents worth, but keep the rear decklid you have. The lines follow the car real well, I think with even with the oval window and large vent on the rear the W Decklid would look a bit out of place.

Oh and whats under the hood? I didn't see any finished under the hood shots? You going Secret Squirrel on us?

I like the headlights and their placement. Any bigger and they would look awkward. Glad to see you kept the shocks in the front. Like the tailights also.

Have you seen the peep mirros that clamp into the seal channel on the doors? I got them for my 57 but wish I wouldn't have mounted the one on the passengers side, it's pretty much useless.

Is that a Longacre steering wheel?

brad

No I have not seen the peep mirrors that clamp into the seal channel. Do you have any pictures you can post? And where can you get them?

The steering wheel is custom hand made. Made by the owner of "The Volksrod Shop". I still have to finish it and get it powder coated.

I didn't know what a Longacre steering wheel where, so I looked them up. They are nice. I like 'em. Too late now.

I don't think the decklid is all that big of an issue (you can add a W lid later on), the first and main thing that stands out to me is the headlights. I'm sure you probably have a law about the height of them, but it sure would look the part more if they were a little lower (to cover the beam), and/or larger in diameter to fill the void there...

A peep mirror would be another cool addition, but as mentioned, it's your car and it still looks good, even as it sits now.

Good call on the exhaust tips. What taillights do you plan to run, and where will they be mounted?

If I move the lights lower they would be in the way of the trunk or to cover the beam would make them way too low. I would of had to move them further forward and thats not something I wanted.

Here is a front view.

I was going to do the peep mirrors but then changed my mind because I did not want to cut the door frame again. Plus it would make it permanent and I would not be able to remove them if I did not want them anymore.

These are the lights.

And this is a similar mounting location.
