Im so sorry for you loss. My hart goes out the you and your family.

What you did for your mom was priceless. You gave her a smile and got her to forget about her problems by giving her her car. For that you are a great son and your mother was lucky to have you.

Thanks for sharing your story. It's a beautiful car for a beautiful mother, and it's very warming to see a son be as compassionate as you are. Cars hold quite a powerful feeling. The memories and relationship we share with them over the years of service they provide us can be very emotional.

I'm sorry for your loss, but I'm sure you brought some light to her life in a tough time. I hope you can keep the car for a long time as a memory you shared with her.

Wow, what a thing to do. My condolences for your loss. My wife and I did similar for her father and gave him a fiberglass buggy that he enjoyed for the remaining summer of his life. The sadness continues, but the moment shared will live on. It has been ten years and that dune buggy will never leave our family and has more sentimental value to us than any other item. Every time I get in it or work on it, the love is there.

That's exactly how I am right now. Is the only place I can "feel" her around me.

Thank you all for the kind words....

It's been less than a month now and it sucks bad still.
My good friend said, "the plain truth is, it will always F'n suck. As as time goes by, it will hurt less."
"still," she continued, "it will always F'n suck."

Just read through this, what a touching story. Just know that you made her last days on this earth extremely happy. Enjoy the car and cherish the memories you have of her.

I am truly crying right now. Thank you so much for being a wonderful person. If everybody was like you there would be so little strife in this world. I extend my most heartfelt condolences, and God bless!
I am going to go hug my mom (and my Beetle Wink) right now!

Thank you for the replies...
It's been a month now since she passed on and since then Ive met several nice people interested in the car. Once I've told the back story on the car the back down from offering to buy it out of respect... I will never sell the car btw. At least not to someone undeserving or in real need.

I've also displayed the car at an event localy and met some other VW owners via San Diego air cooled Car club.... it seems to bring people together and make people smile.... I think Mom would have like that.

Update.
It's been 10 years but I still have my Mom's Beetle. Still bone stock. Unmolested... well, it has has 2 significant events that damaged the door, bumper and passenger fender but all that was fixed and properly restored. For now, it lives in my garage but I do run her from time to time.
