Last weekend I moved a ton of bricks. I chickened out and took it in two loads. The bus drove differently even with a 1000 pounds on. I was a little cautious because there is a steep hill between my house and the brick destination. I could just envision losing my braking and hitting someone "like a ton of bricks", and I really didn't want to end up a cliche.

In the morning we were camping at paradise point, and in the afternoon BBQing on the sand. Great weekend! Woodburn was cool, but not as much fun as actually using the bus for its intended purpose.

For my 67 Deluxe Bus -- Changed the oil and cleaned filter, topped up the tranny fluid, replaced the oil sending unit (still did not fix the non-appearance of the light on the speedo), and installed the long awaited chrome molding trim on my interior panels (a PIA because all interior panels had to be removed to install the chrome trim and clips). Tomorrow I am going to replace the shocks that have been there for 20+ years. _________________ 1967 Double Cab

Gave it a bath, got 2 more tires for it and had them installed at a non-chain tire store in town. 4 properly rated tires! Drove it all over Boone, NC on Freshman Orientation Day

Woke up early and drove my kombi out to pick up the kiddo from summer camp, my wife didn't even gripe about having to ride in the bus b/c she knows how much junk we can fit in it. The bus easily swallowed my girls luggage in the rear hatch with lots of room to spare.
Now it's almost 100 degrees outside and I'm drinkin cheap beer and half ass working on my panel. Sat the booty fab roof rack on and a mystery junk yard seat. Damn its hot outside, summer is here. Happy fathers day

Saturday I filled the crew cab with trash & recycling for my every 2 or 3 month trip to the dump. I was unloading stuff there and a guy came up and asked what year the truck was, then mentioned that he had a 71 bus. He then noticed my Samba sticker, and mentioned he was on here too. Not only that, it turns out he and I had emailed back when I was first moving up here! Small world for sure, and amazing how far the Samba reaches out into the countryside.
And of course always cool to meet more Samba folks in person... _________________ <---Air Cooled Search & Rescue Team - STICKERS & T-shirts for sale!

My Bus is the only ride I have, so pretty much everything I do is with her.
Saturday her cover was stolen...(seriously, who steals a ratty cover that smells like dog pee? Jerks, that's who...yeah, I now get a new cover, but that means that I worked yesterday just for a new cover...)...then took the girlfriend clothes shopping.
Sunday drove out to the Mission to record voice over for some dude's project and then completely failed to come home with burritos (I picked up some dude's torta and taco instead...).
Later today, packing her full of my stuff and starting to move back out of the loft we've been house sitting. _________________ 1967 Camper

I sat in the drivers seat, smoked, offered words of encouragement to the turn signal switch and pretended I was rolling down the road. Even a unfinished bus needs attention |

My Truck and I went to the bus station to pick up the HWE rack we bought off The Samba... Thanks Justin!
I was a little skeptical that I could clear the garage door with it on.. thank goodness for the 3" suspension drop!
By the way... if sending large items like racks by Greyhound, don't be in a hurry... took 2 weeks from West Virginia to Tulsa, OK....
The rack on it's perch:
The rack in it's packaging on it's arrival home:
The 'new' appearance:
and:
Close call on the door clearance:

When I talked to Greyhound in St Louis and Ohio they both were shocked that it hadn't made it too... That's when they told me to wait until Monday, today, and then file paperwork for a lost item.... One guy tried explaining that luggage takes precedence over shipping cargo... When I showed up at the station, there it was.. just unloaded from a bus! Talk about timing! My truck and I sang 'The wheels on the bus go round and round' all the way home.... _________________ "My ex-wife had a hint of a beard and she looked like a manly-girl... that made no difference..."
