Correct Glass
I have several brands of glass that came with my euro 59 (build date October 1958). Can anyone shed some light on the correct markings for the vent wings, side and rear windows?
Thanks

Just bought a 1958 VW Ragtop beetle, my first beetle... was searching for about a year for the right on to come along. but got impatient I guess and ended up buying a Lemmon?!
I bought it because it was a good solid Ragtop. no major rust issues and a good 1641 engine in it. (£8500)
I thought it was a good idea to take it to the garage for a mechanic to give it the once over and its been like opening a can of worms!
Front beam had to shocks and had been crudely modified,
electrics were a mess, probably why the car died on me whilst driving home.
guy had it lowered so much the front end was scraping and worn a whole through the sheet metal. Anyway enough of my sob story, just gonna put it down to experience!
My really question is how much will it cost to instal a new front end on my car, with air-ride? does anyone know anywhere in the south of England that specialises in this?
any suggestions or advice much appreciated!!

67dub, how was it disassembling those door handles for plating? I'm about to do the same thing, but I'm not really sure what to expect, especially removing the lock cylinder and reinstalling the spring when it all goes back together. |

Sorry I didn't see this sooner, disassemble and reassemble is not too bad, I did have to clean the hole out for the lock cylinder after chroming, the chrome shop also recommended to leave the small screw in place for the lock cylinder. This came out after chroming without an issue and kept me from having to re tap such a small hole. I used a small wire brush from a bore cleaning kit to clean the hole for the lock cylinder. As far as the spring goes I use a small punch for alignment and then carefully drive the pin in from the other side. |

Maybe, it depends if they are close to the month change.
It sounds like you don't want to post the exact numbers here so PM them to me if you want me to take a look.
Or post them but X out the last 2-3 digits so we can see where they fall in the list. _________________ How to Post Photos

Thanks for the follow up!
I am between the Hella and Bosch. Seems like the Bosch were for ovals and maybe a switch to Hella for the early big windows?
Thanks for your help, the search continues! _________________ -Ryan

Here you go
How we found it
Clearing up around it
It's now waiting to be put in our shop. I don't have much info on it like how long it had been sitting, or where it was before it was parked. I don't know what happened to the front and rear lights. It looks like it has the original engine. _________________ 1961 SWR Kombi |

Here is the old girl I found this spring. Best I can tell she was last insured in 1973, even found the last insurance slip in the glove box..... she is going to be my winter project once I get my dads 73 bus back together. (it should be out of the paint booth next weekend).
From what I can tell this is an early 58. She has a few of the 57 parts from looking at her.
That's how I found her, just sitting in the field.... So what else could I do... I had to rescue her...
A careful tape job to cover the headlight lenses as they were in amazing condition and we were on our way home.

I noticed that with all of the hot weather this summer that the fiber mat in my trunk was loose. A few weeks ago I decided it would be nice to remove the mat since it has deteriorate over the years and the tar and fibers have migrated all over the trunk area. It came out pretty easily with only the rear right corner (by glove box) putting up any resistance.
Look what was under the mat! I believe the inspector's name was 'H. Snelle'. I might have caused the gap in the 'n' with my plastic scrapper when i was loosening the corner ''
I know there are other instances where the inspector has left their initials and other notations, but has anyone else seen a full name like this?
The trunk cleaned up nicely although i didn't do any cleaning around H Snelle's name. I will have to that with qtips!
Any thoughts about how to remove the residual glue without damaging the factory paint? |

Goof off on a rag will pull the glue off no problem. Just dont get to crazy with it.
Btw, even though I would, if your not going to use the tar board you may want to put it up for sale here. There are guys restoring these cars that would kill for that board. _________________ WANTED: Henry Veale Santa Rosa plate frames

Thanks Stale Air. Yes, the fiber board will probably go back on at some point. Right now I am stripping off 2 resprays and a skim coat to see how much original paint is on the car. Also cleaning off the overspray in the trunk and other areas where the original paint is visible. |
