Take it to an upholstery shop or have someone else hack the holes for you _________________ '68 Lotus White T34 automatic sunroof

Not sure of your year, but most seem to have a rubber collar/surround melted into the carpet. Hard to add now. But you could have it cut and add sewn-in binding like on the other perimeter edges, and it would look pretty sharp. |

Yes....its actually vinyl. Its hot melted on.
You can do a really nice version of that yourself.
Carefully cut the holes, mark/draw the ring or surrounding area you want. With a razor blade....or you can even do this with a soldering iron.....carefully shave or meld the carpet down to just fuzz that sticks out in a thin matt above the heat sealed backing.
Mask the area off carefully. Spread on a layer of stiff RTV.....or you can use Flexane casting urethane. Let dry.....remask if necessary and eepeat until you have a uniform layer thickness.
I did this twice years back on another 411 I had ro replace the carpet mat over the center tunnel.
Depending in how clean you are.....from 2 feet away this can look professionally done....though it will look slightly different from what came from the factory. Ray |

My TMI kit did not have the molding and I had to cut the holes myself. _________________ 69 Fastback Build

What I do is use an ice pick to find the outline of the hole. Then mark where I want to cut with a sharpie. If the hole is round get a piece of pipe the size you want, grip with vice grips and heat it with a torch and press it through the carpet. For irregular shapes use a soldering iron to cut it out. |
Thats a great method as well if you are crafty. I have worked with a lot of companies that did plastic bending so we had hot wires and coils.
I have done some panel and carpet seams ...straight lines mainly....with hot wire tools.
If one has some spare carpet to practice with you can actually make world class seams and bindings similar to many that were done stock. Its just heat and melting. Ray |
