Hoping someone can help me out. I recently swapped my 40 hp for a 1641. I have dual Weber 40s on it and converted to electronic pointless ignition. Has a tri mill twin exhaust. My issue is that on every gear it hesitates unless I'm hammering the throttle. Ive swapped the main jets 3 times thinking its been a fuel issue. Swapped the idles twice and had converted the standard centrifugal points to a compufire pointless setup. Plugs seem to look ok just can't get that lag in power if I'm easing into the throttle. Any suggestions? I did check timing and that was ok too. |

If you are running 009 distributor that may be your problem...
you state timing is ok, but what was settings...

Lets see some pictures.
I guessing you got several things going on and the twin exhaust may be the main reason. _________________ 2017 Street Comp Champion - Thunder Valley Raceway Park - Noble, OK

With my 1776 I had:
Dual 40idfs
28 vents
50 idles
115 mains
180 airs
009 dist but my max was 28 degrees
And some NGK BP6et spark plugs. Ran damn good.
Can't imagine you would too far off from these jets. After getting help from John, I started from scratch. Took apart carbs. Cleaned and compressed air the carbs. Reassembled. And new spark plugs. |

So here's where I'm at now. 125 mains. 55 idle jets. I had 115 mains and it kept backfiring thru the carb or "sneezing" while I'd be cruising till I went with the 55s. Then I noticed I lost some power when I swapped idles so I made a call to CB performance and they suggested I swap for 120s or 125s so that's where I'm at now. These Weber Idfs are the older style without the fuel pump actuated adjustment so I have no adjustment there. |

check fuel pressure and floats for sure.
get a wideband (either rent or buy one - I use http://www.plxdevices.com/Wideband-O2-Touch-Screen-Multi-Guage-p/897346002719.htm)
55 idles are almost certainly too big. Be sure you are correctly setting the idle mixture, the bypasses are closed, and they are well sync'd.
read the WIDEBAND thread start to finish....its a lot of work, but its a goldmine of info. _________________ 1965 Beetle

I see your problem. Those emojis are blocking air from the carbs. And you have no exhaust on there
Put your exhaust back on with METAL gaskets. You probably haven't cleaned out carbs GOOD and blew them out with compressed air. You haven't mentioned you reset the floats. Make sure your manifold nuts are tight so no intake leaks. Adjust your valves.
55s too big for 40 IDFs. Guaranteed 50s is your answer. And give pics of your spark plugs so we can see your jetting. Sounds like you still have some work to do |
