|

I actually have two questions here.
First, do the Thing rims have a part number stamped on them? Or otherwise, how do I confirm I have the Thing rims rather than some other model.
Second, does anyone know what the original color was of the Thing rims. I picked up an extra set of rims to clean repaint, but I want to make sure the rims are correct and I get them painted in the proper color.
Thanks,
Scott |

I can't remember the color code right now, but if you search for paint codes, the rims were the silver color in all the code charts.
Thing rims are 5 bolt, 14" with no slots. There may have been one year bus that had the same rims, but otherwise they are rather unique. All 14' rims I found in swap meets that claim to be for a thing were actually slotted bus rims.

It's my understanding that some non-slotted Bus wheels are also marked 5JK14, but have some interference problems when mounted on the front axle.
Thanks to Captain Spalding, we have these:

Look at how the tops are folded; especially the tan car in the background.
They look different than both the owner's manual and the Thing Shop method.
Sort of like Semper_Dad's "burrito" technique mentioned in another post.
I wonder why they used that coconut parking brake on the white one. |
