Good work! Looks like you are having fun with it. I have some better dash pads if you are interested. Not perfect- just better. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

Thanks Tram, Yes I would be interested in a better dash. I see they repop them, but I also see guys saying they don't last but only a couple years and cracks start to occur (depending on conditions subjected to) So a nicer OG one would be better. Plus this car will never be a points perfect car. With that being said the next game plan attack on the car is to replace all the window rubber which I have ready, BUT really the dash, headliner, and rear parcel shelf repair needs to be completed first and before rubber.. Both the dash and rear parcel have great access when the windows are out.. _________________ My build thread(The desert Rat). http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=653395 |

Right! Window out makes this so much easier. If you want seals that seal I hate to say this but Cal look is definitely the way to go, it seems. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

Hey, On another note. just came back to work from lunch and you guys remember how I disconnected my speedo cause of the horrific screaming cable?. Well I was cited by Eugene's finest EPD for speeding @ 56 in a 40 climbing the hill @ 4-corners.. Hell... I was just trying to get enough speed to get over the overpass, took me 1/8 mile to get to that speed. LOL $200 ticket to me, yippee!! _________________ My build thread(The desert Rat). http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=653395 |

The ISP rubber worked perfectly for me all around the car, except on the windshield. I used Permatex Flowable Silicone around the bottom of the glass, and no more leaks. _________________ 71 Elm Green FI A/T Squareback |

Between the glass and the seal. The seal just didn't fit tightly enough around the glass, no matter what I did. The gap to receive the glass is simply too wide. Between the seal and the body is fine, and all the other seals are fine. Only the windshield seal has that problem.
Tram recommended the silicone, and it did the job. It has to be the Flowable kind. _________________ 71 Elm Green FI A/T Squareback |

I heard that new replacement glass isn't as wide as the OE German glass. Maybe that's the reason for the poor fitment. _________________ My build thread(The desert Rat). http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=653395 |

Right. The last Squareback I did a few years ago every seal leaked until I flowed this stuff all around it. On the other hand I got a few seals for a Notchback since then and they fit way better. On the type 34, it was the flowable silicone again. It really seems to be hit or miss. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

Looks good . I always liked the older sloped front hood better than the later noes like I have.
Also I remember riding in a 2 year old 68 like ours when I was 20 , dated a girl who's father owned one and he had me looking at the fuel injection since it some issue.
Back then the fuel was better and it seemed even with 4 people in it it pulled just fine in good old Park Ridge IL. |

Can this permatex be added after the glass is installed in the car?, or does it need to be done during assembly of rubber onto glass? _________________ My build thread(The desert Rat). http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=653395 |

Yup, had the same issue with the windshield too. On mine, I've been just letting it sit in the sun, hoping it'll close up some more. Oh, and that's with an aftermarket windshield that I got thru ISP. I do have a tube of 3M window weld here that I might use to close up the gaps. Or, I'll just install my good used WCM "Cal Look" seal. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

I did it after installing the glass. I think it would be far too messy trying to do it before putting the glass in the car.
It's easy to do. After you've got the glass the way you want it, put the silicone between the glass and the seal, from the outside. Don't be stingy, but don't flood it either. After it sets, use a razor blade to remove any excess from the glass, and peel off any excess from the rubber. That's it. _________________ 71 Elm Green FI A/T Squareback |

Well, this went down tonight. Took longer than I thought. Lasted two months. But the dryed out cooked oil cooler seals gave out.. So this was a pain in the ass to do in the car.

Look at it this way -- the oil cooler needed cleaning anyway. Cheap insurance! _________________ 71 Elm Green FI A/T Squareback |
