Finally traced poor idle problem to a leak on the manifold to cylinder head joint on 1600 twin port. Al. suppliers sell metal gaskets, but some also list fibre gaskets which are dearer Is there any benefit in the the fibre ones. Not bothered about the cost but would like to do job once! |

Good day.
OEM DP intake flange gaskets are embossed/stamped steel, so please determine what type is currently in place (& be advised that either type could work fine).
While you're in there, it would be best to get & install a new pair of manifold center section-to-end casting seals as well.
For the record: severe intake leaks frequently do translate into burned valves, but YMMV.
G' luck! _________________

I'm not sure how compression works.
Turbos don't produce torque, they produce HP. Instead of torque.
The real problem with NA engines is you don't hear the nice whine of the turbo as it spools up.
Before I commit, I'm going to do more research because I don't really know what piston rings are. |
