Hi does anyone have any info on this headlights weather it off a vw or something else as the retaining tab has a return but then as you see they have vw glass and the earlier lamp hold down catch I have 2 the same

It is for pre 53 vw. |

It is for pre 53 vw. |

That's what I thought but I think there original replacements as one has 1q as manufacture code but the tab is what I'm not sure about |

I dont know about being replacements but I have seen tab on 50-52 headlights. My friend has an orig 51 beetle and has that type of assembly. |

If the date codes on the backside of the reflectors are unreadable, the lenses are (usually) date-stamped at the 12 o'clock position on the lip, with a roman numeral and a letter.

| My guess would be that the chrome rings are from 1951 or earlier. By 1952, the Bosch chrome rings has round fastening tabs at the bottom. |

If the "1Q" date code on the other reflector is really "1G," then the headlight dates to January 1951. For the reflector shown, there appears to be the date code "2G" barely readable between the two rows of numbers.

The 5 drain hole Bosch buckets are for the zwitter. From all my reading pre-zwitter Bosch have no drain holes. The bent screw tab is also zwitter. I believe that the splits have a flat tab and a single rivot. This is my understanding from over the years. If I'm wrong, then I stand correct. But I'm pretty sure I'm correct.
