i found this pic online:
the front area looks the same, but the rear doesn't quite look right. in that pic the shift rod seems to be at the bottom of the transmision, whereas mine it at the top of that end. perhaps they changed the design of the transmission during its short production run? _________________ 1974 Super Beetle: Custom resto in progress

They did up the engine size and HP along with redesigned engine and transmission mount setup for '73 so it is conceivable. _________________ '74 412 wagon

It's NOT a K70 transaxle. I have one behind my chair, so I'm pretty sure.
I'm not sure what it is and I thought I had a handle on wacky transaxles. |

i am building a belly tank car in a reverse trike configuration. included is a photo of the body to be used along with a quick drawing of the general idea. i am looking for a transaxle (preferably reverseable) that would look alot like that. i found this thread on a google search so im not really loking to the vw power. more like a small 4 cyl water job. at any rate if not that one is there one like that out there. and if so how could u reverse the tranny and then run shifting linkage all the way to the front of the body. through a bulkhead too. |

Try a Corvair transaxle. It's already 'reversed' and a Chevy bellhousing. And try not to hijack other people's threads - start a new thread and reference this one. |

VW put trannys like that in the FWD mid-'80's Dashers. No doubt it is based on the Audi/NSU designs, but for a larger car than the K70. _________________ -Bruce

I had a Quantum- the transaxle looked like a aircooled VW trans sitting backwards as I recall... _________________ '74 412 wagon

Zombie thread - but I felt the need to comment, since I know exactly what that is. It's a 1st Generation (1979-1982) Toyota Tercel transmission. I owned one years ago, fun little car. |
