I believe its a 1600 cc, not fuel injected, hard-top w/sunroof, and its recently been out of the shop where a guy worked on the electrical wiring-which could be it. But its a regular 4 speed |

Just letting you know that this forum is for VW 411 and 412 models......which are totally different than VW Beetles, type 3 fastback and square backs and any other air cooled vw.
I suspect you are in the wrong forum.....as VW 411's and 412's were extremely rare in North America with a sunroof......and also fairly rare with a 4 speed transmission. 99.9% of them started out fuel injected in this country with an automatic transmission......and none of them ever came with a 1600 cc engine.
While we can certainly help you.....this would not really be the right forum.
What did you have done at the shop? What do you mean it wont start....do you mean the starter does not turn....meaning when you turn the key nothing happens.......or do you just hear a click.....or does the starter turn the engine but it does not run?
Or......since you are in Atlanta........does your car happen to be....a yellow two door?.......that your father found in a field Nortg of Atlanta almost three years ago?
I ask because there was a gentleman who posted that he had found it.....I believe jt was a,two door 411 with factory 4 speed......wanted to get it driving for his daughter......and posted only about three times and disappeared. He appeared to not be interested in any information or warnings about what needed to be done with the car to make it survive.

Type 1(Bug),2 (Bus),3(squareback,fastback or notchback) or 4? 411 or 412? Sounds like you blew a fuse & maybe have a dead short in the wiring somewhere? _________________ https://imgur.com/user/FisherSquareback/posts

Ok ...so we can get this straight......does your car look like or is shaped like any of these?
If so....you ARE in the right forum.
We will need more information to help you.
Post a picture of yoru car...and post a picture of what is under the hood. If you are trying to wrap your head around picture posting...you can PM me and e-mail them to me and for the moment...I can post them up for you.
We need to know what engine and what condition your vehicle is in before we can tell you WHY it will not start.
There are numerous simple things that can cause this...that are common to most air cooled VW's...and there are numerous things that are only common to VW type 3 and 4 with factory injection....and a few that are only common to VW 411 and 412...and even fewer that are common only to four speed or automatic models.
We could play a multi week guessing game...which is fun....but lets slow down and find out what you have so we can help quicker and easier with very little guesswork. Ray |
