I have finaly talked my daughter and wife into building a 24 Hour of Lemons race car.I live 25 miles from Barber Motorsports park and have a good solid team ready to go.If anyone has raced a Rabbit or A Cabrio any input would be great.

1989 1.8 8 valve all stock..

The 1.8 8v in that car is the last of that design & as such has been well sorted & quite dependable. Hopefully it's a 5speed, the automatic transmissions weren't very performance oriented. The biggest downside to the cabriolet is the additional weight of the convertible components & the supplemental stiffening required to brace the car for the lack of rigidity due to no roof. While fun initially, you might quickly grow frustrated with its ability to be competitive. A rabbit sedan with the required roll cage might be around the same weight as the stock cabriolet.

It is a 5 speed and i got it cheap b/c the kid down the street smoked the clutch. The tittle is a salvage so just figure that I will work with what we have.It is an indurance race so hopefully the 8 valve will hold up.

Then yes,it's a great solid little driveline. Just make sure that you get or fabricate a lower suspension tie bar, the sheet metal frame horns are prone to fatigue, especially under aggressive cornering & braking.
