Hi there,
I've just received some replacement hub caps clips and rivets for my standard wheels. I was just wondering if anyone has any tips on how to fit the rivets correctly? Do I need a special tool?

cheers,
Rich

This is the tool I used to put the clips and rivets in:

http://www.wolfsburgwest.com/cart/DetailsList.cfm?ID=111601000

It was very easy to use and even though it suggests clamping it in a bench vise I just supported the tire on the ground with a few bricks and did the job in a half hour. Toughest part was taking out what was left of the old clip and rivet.

Break off the old clip. Then use a grinder to remove the button head. After that, use a puinch and out comes the rest of the clip & rivet. Also, when using that tool, it's advisable to have have two people. One to balance the wheel on the tool & the other person weilding the hammer to mushroom the rivet.

Hope you got extra clips...seems like 2 outta 5 snap off the first time you put the hubcap back on...those clips are very thin and brittle (cheap brazilian)!!! Once they are on, don't try to adjust them, even a little bit, THEY WILL BREAK OFF...VERY FRUSTRATING!!!

Get the good ones from Wolfsburg West. They are much longer than the Brazilian unit. They won't catch under the hubcap lip when removing unlike the short POS ones!

Thanks - I got the clips from Alan Schofield in the Uk. Set of 5 - I believe they're the better quality ones.

Hmmm - not sure if I can find that sort of tool in the UK.
