|
|
hey guys i have aproblem here. I noticed while driving home my brake pedal was hitting the floor board. I got home put brake fluid in the resevior and pumped my brakes about ten times. I jacked it up and noticed fluid all over my garage floor. I didn't notice any fluid on the lines. I did see it was leaking under the car right where the brake pedal would be. I am assuming ints the master cylinder. How do i check the lines to that and whats the easiest way to do that? Thanks guys!

What I do is jack up the front of the car, take off the driver's side front wheel, set up a drop light... That gets you at it on the outside.
Pull up the carpet around the pedal cluster and on the front wall you should see two bolts, one on each side of the pushrod that goes through to the master cylinder. Those hold the master cylinder in, just in case you have to pull it. With a reasonable bit of inspection inside and outside, you should see where your leak is. _________________ 49 Deluxe -Family cruiser

Be careful when/if you remove the 2 bolts that hold the master cylinder. there are spacers between the inner panel and the outer (wheel well) panel that maintain the space. Don't lose track of those...
Clean off any fluid on or around the master cylinder and have someone pump the pedal while you watch for leaks at the M/C.
Good luck! |

Before removing master cyl. check steel (sometimes copper tubing
"repair"??) brake line towards rear of vehicle under driver's right
heel. I've seen a hole wear through there. |

I answered that in my first post. If you remove the fuel tank, you'll gain all the access needed to R&R a new master cylinder. Believe me, it's alot easier that way than removing the front left tire. _________________ 1947 Typ 11a
