I love this thread.
I had been "hunting" for a bug since I sold my 67 almost 15 years ago. My search covered a 350 mile radius, but I never found one that I could afford.
Until Last week I found this:
It was 8 miles from my house, and I picked it up for $2500
so, I hooked up the tow bar and dragged it home yesterday
It's a 63 on a 59 pan that has been sitting outside for the last 12 years.
Fortunately, I live in the Southern California desert, so the weather has been kind to it. _________________ My Photobucket for my Herbie Project - http://s1288.photobucket.com/user/TK-439/library/Herbie?sort=3&page=1

apart from the seats and the few bits you can see missing off the outside, it is all there and original.

Just picked up this '60 and '67 last week, both are rather dry. The '67 is a bit rougher than the '60. We will see what the future holds.
We'll see if that old 36hp will run for me.

Scored this beautiful Northern California bug last week. Was on a family vacation up north and saw this beauty and another sitting in a yard, left a note in the mailbox and the guy called back the next day.
Incredibly nice guy, we saw eye to eye for the future of his bugs. Bone stock. and worked out a price (3k)
Included in the deal was this 1963 Ragtop 79k original miles. Original engine inside. Stored under an awning, so no rain since 1987 when it was parked.
Also a very nice 1958 also with original engine (in pretty bad shape, but restorable)
A 1600dp engine, 3k miles on it and a 1300DP never installed on a full rebuild.
Really excited about this bug! Ill keep this one forever. and the 58' is going to be my younger brothers project (his first car.)[/img] |

Currently on the hunt for my 2nd bug(had a 2004 gti 1.8t) for 8 years.
I've got about $7000, but am having a difficult time. Looking for a 63-67, primarily. So far I've seem a 66 and a 67, both of which weren't quite what they were advertised as. The hunt continues and I can't wait! Cheers |
