Hi guys,
Not sure if you ever got this body style but we had them for a year.

It was the Split rear end with the Bay front end....

here is a opening page of my post in the aircooled forum...

"Hi guys,

Got me a 1977 Brazilia Kombi, had to get away from the Capetonians, man they hide everything.... Laughing Laughing

She is aged, this can bee seen by the thickness of her make-up.

Rather thick in places.

Just to set the record strait from the start, I have no intention of restoring this bus as of now. Shocked

Will be fixing the mechanicals, and making her drive.

Have near got the paperwork sorted, so I will be bunging in a Type 4 motor (love the 2lt), and using it during the restore of the split Fleetline Panel Van.

So here is a pic of when I got her...

What I have found is that the steering in totality is worn and needs replacement.

The Master cylinder is a "Once off", even for Brazilian VW being the 211 611 111, and finding parts was near impossible.
Have today found a very dusty box, in a very dusty store, which had a few sets, took 3. .. Laughing

Have cleaned up the Steering box, fitted new seals, and filled it up with Bardahl.
Found some tie rod ends, fitted them, and found some strange truck tie rods, which fit the Drag Link ends, and fitted them.
Now the only thing is the Swivel link pin, May have to make that one with the bushes. ?? Rolling Eyes

Well till next time,

Herman"

Well since that day I have fitted a Type 4 FLAT motor to the bus, which is called "Fugly" and got it ready for the trip to a coastal town called George here in the Eastern Cape, for one of the biggest classic car shows in SA.

So for the guys that did not look at the other site, for the build up, here is the last entery on that site to date.

Well guys the Fugly made it.

With only a few Km on the clock, off it went on its maiden voyage.

Just to ensure a good test, I through on a Teardrop Van on tow as well.

So off to George, with only one minor problem for the trip.

This originated from the RWC guy, who decided that there MUST be something wrong with the Fugly as it is OLD, so he had it on the Hydrulic shaker with the brakes applyed then released on and off for must be 10 min.

I asked him what he was doing, as he never tested any new car on this machine for so long.

His reply was that he was sure there must be something loose, so he will test till he finds it.

I was pissed, And he never found anything loose.

So on the way to George the brakes started making a loud screeching noise, like you get on old big trucks, when they stop.

Well was not going to let this spoil my trip, so I drove on the handbrake there and back.

Today I striped both wheels looking for loose brake shoes, but found nothing ????????????

This is a mystery.......

Decided to lub all contact points with a bit of copper-slip, in the adjusters, as well on the touch points on the back plate.
also on the plunger of the slave cylinders.

Did a short test, sounds OK, but need to do a longer run so the shoes can bed in again, and then see if it OK.

will let you know, but if you have ideas, let me know.

Herman

Just to explain the George show thing.

Here in SA, the Aircooled VW guys from up north, come down to the south on a pilgrimage.

This is normally by means of different convoys from all parts of SA joining together to the Volkswagen factory in Uitenhage, near Port Elizabeth, then they convoy down the coast to George.

Here are the loved ones in my life, at the factory during the pilgrimage this year.

So the Fastback has made its 1st George Show.

Was a good run, performed well, and drove like a dream.

In fact it drove so well that my daughter has now decided that its her CAR

Just short report, on the new Type 4 Motor, that has had its service and still running smooth, will now start to do some small body jobs but still not sure if I should leave it as is, or go for full body re-do
What you guys think....
