Are there any adjustments besides the one on the AFM? The engine seems to run best with the screw turned all the way clockwise, but the mix stays rich on every setting. Spark plugs are black, tailpipe insides too, and black smoke when heavy acceleration - not a lot, but noticeable. |

That...and before going any further check your fuel pressure. Its rare that it would be too high....but possible especially if you have a leaking vacuum line. Ray |

Is the TSII the cylinder head temp sensor? the one that screws into the top of cylinder #1 the one that's impossible to access without removing that big metal tube? ( Or is there an easier way to get to it? I do have a new sensor but couldn't figure out how to get the old one out>) |

Yest the Temperature Sender II screws into the left head. The early location is a PITA. Not all that hard to trouble shoot it though, all that takes is a meter. Remove the plug from the ECU and connect one lead of the meter to the appropriate pin as per the Bentley and the other to ground. The Bentley has the resistance specs you should be seeing for any given head temp. You can also just ground the wire running to the sensor out when the engine is hot, if that makes the engine run better then the sensor is questionable.
You can install the new sensor by drilling out and tapping the screw hole that holds the tin on next to the #4 manifold runner and installing the sensor there. Works better and much easier to access. |

I just started it up with the temp. sensor disconnected and it ran REAL rich, terrible. Then when I re-connected it it ran fine. So the sensor is okay? |

It is likely okay, but you really need to test its resistance according to the book to know for sure. It is important to do the test through the wiring harness so that any abnormal resistance in the harness will show itself. |
