I have found a 1973 412 in a salvage yard it has been sitting There for 10 years! Body is good no damage, motor has not run for at least 10yrs and has been converted to propane not sure if that's a good thing or not,but did turn over! The savage yard said they lost the title and I can get a bill a sale and get a salvaged title is that good or bad?

For these cars I don't think it really matters.

It does depending upon your local laws. You need to talk to the local DMV and ask what is required to title a salvage vehicle.

The problem may be where the yard got the vehicle and how it was classified.
For instance...in Texas....If they bought it like they bought all other wrecks 9auction, insurance auction etc.).....they are not allowed to sell you the chassis no matter what. The worry is that if these guys are not honest.....what if they never had the title. You buy the car thinking the receipt lets you title it....and the local DMV looks it up and says...sorry...that car was junk and not able to be titled as a working vehicle.

They have these laws in place many places to keep junkyards from taking horribly wrecked cars...just fixing them up and selling them to unsuspecting public.

But in many places a salvage receipt is perfect for re-titling. Check your local DMV. Ray

Washington is pretty liberal on titling old cars, so you may be in luck compared to people in other states. I is my understanding that their are two methods that can be used:

1. A temperature 3 year title if you don't have have acceptable proof of ownership.

2. A title based on reasonable proof of ownership.

Never tried either method, but maybe someday.
