Steam cleaning engine ..any tips?

I was concerned about cleaning out my heat exchangers and wanted to clean up the engine and realized heyt , I have a steam cleaner I can use. Before I attempt it, I thought I would ask if anyone had a negative experience with one and if so what should I watch out for while doing it.

Avoid the alternator asw much as possible...and watch out for oldish rubber parts and cloth fuel lines. Just dont linger on them. Be sure to retighten all hose clamps when done. Ray

If it's the '74, it'll be AFC fuel injection, so avoid the air flow meter as well.
