|
|
I would be honored to be able to start this topic I see no reason why the iconic 356 Porsche should be exempt from the scrutiny of TheSamba members.
In the tradition of TheSamba here are the rules from other Whine Topics.
Information and Rules:
* This thread is for whining as well as discussing or informing about the good and bad of any 356 Porsche or 356 Porsche part for sale.
* If you are posting a link, you must comment, otherwise it is not a whine.
* This thread is considered by many members to be negative and/or offensive and may not be for everyone.
* This thread will often dip into somewhat unrelated chatting about 356 Porscheor vehicle-related topics, this is allowed.
* If you do not like the content, please do not read the thread.
* NO FOR SALE ADS HERE, use the Classifieds section of the site _________________ Brian O'Kelly

I realize it's an A, not many for sale etc.
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1275679
I've tried to contact the seller and see if he's had any interest. Or some interest in lowering the price. No responses.
Also, my other whine is, why do most 356 projects come with an engine case? It would take another 10K to rebuild a case into a proper engine, yet everyone looks for the 'matching' case. I doubt it adds any real value, it just gets moved onto to the next guy.
Last whine, what's up with 3-5K 356 engines that DON'T RUN? _________________ "There is only one sin; disconnection from self." |

Beware:
This ad is for ONE wheel:
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1301507
IMO, posting 4 pics from the same angle is borderline fraudulent, because it almost suggests he's got a set of 4 wheels. _________________

$700 must be a single wheel.
The pics look like 4 views of the same wheel, rotating about 90 degrees each time to me. He's being thorough I think. |
Agree, if you're selling a wheel like that it's good to show all sides. That's a deal, they can go now for $1000. A date matched set for $5000 _________________ Brian O'Kelly

I completely agree with you. But I think, at the same time, his ad should state he is selling ONE wheel. _________________

What makes a 356 wheel worth so much more than a vw wide 5? I think it is ridiculous that a used 356 wheel is a lot of dollars when you can buy a new repop wheel for $100 or less. _________________ Mic

This car started at $27500 (possibly less).
I saw him raise the price a few times based on some eBay auction sales.
Based on some activity behind the scenes between the seller and possible buyers for which various emails were forwarded to me (abuse from both ends, etc.), I am not 100% convinced this car is actually for sale and have no reason to believe the current asking price is real. _________________ How to Post Photos

I got a chuckle out of this "Was working 6 years ago when I last had it in my daily driving tub." Sounds a lot like the "it ran when I parked it" line. _________________ Brian O'Kelly

can someone please tell me why 356 guys always call cars "original" and "survivor" when they are in fact repainted, not the original color, "restored"?
what's up with that?
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1308978
to me, if i car is "original" and a "survivor" it has not really been touch a whole lot other than some maintenance and maybe a touchup paint job from a scrape back in the day. it might have seat cobers but they are very old seat covers and have the original upholstery underneath.
it seems like porsche guys call anything a survivor. _________________ Extravagant Lifestyle

I just looked at at that ad. It's neither original or a survivor. It's not even close to either one of those. At best, it should be called an older restoration. But that guy has been into 356's for for a long time so maybe that gives him a little bit of literary freedom? Now my old friend Charlie's two mid seventies 911 turbos, each with about 18,000 miles, those are a different story. _________________ 53 Hatch Barndoor

I think its because the floor pans are original, everything else has been painted or replaced. That car is about as original as my beater '63 SC Coupe. _________________ Go Reds! Smash state!

i think i should have called the outlaw 356 i just sold a survivor. it was repainted multiple times, most recently had been painted a color that was different from it's original color, it had it's nose replaced and floorpans redone but it survived being owned by someone who left it ouside unattended for 10 years.....true survivor with history! _________________ Extravagant Lifestyle
