Well done, but if you think there isn't much of a market, why bother? I'm sure they will sell if you make more. |

I think there is more of a market than just split owners. I know some high performance guys that would love to have a factory access panel in that location. _________________ EMPI Power Rules! |

I'd have to check, but I think my '51 is missing that panel, and as GTV says above, it'd be a really useful feature on a hotter car - I've got to adjust the clutch on my '68 this weekend and I've been putting it off for days...

The market is small, but the availability of originals is also low. Glad to see this one done, looks like a well made part. _________________ John Henry

Why discourage him? Mika is talented with sheet metal. If he wants to make them, all the more power to him. Look at his running boards. Nicely made and a set are on the second oldest VW in the world. Yes, there is more of a market for running boards, but there is still a need for the obscure parts as well. I don't think he is not creating tooling, but doing it mostly by hand. I bet he will sell every one he feels like making. I also agree that this has a market for custom cars. I think it is a detail that they never should have done away with. _________________ Chris

Very nice work!
You know i had always assumed probably wrongly that the one in the back of early barndoors were just off the split beetle press but the original one in the back of my 51 is a bit different in the pressing. May be I'm way off the mark and they are a totally different part or even size as I have never seen a beetle and barndoor one side by side.
Interesting to know if anyone can shed some light on it.

I like how yours have a much sharper detail around the 4 holes. _________________
