So I am removing the transaxle and spring plates for a straight axle conversion and when removing the spring plates I pulled out the torsion bars, I slide them back in thinking the worst has happened. Is this going to be a big problem once I reinstall the new spring plates and straight axle? |

Not a problem at all. They go back in in a second. Just finding the exact location can be tricky. If you are lowering it though you have nothing to worry about as you are gonna slam the dogshit out of it, right? Make us proud... _________________ Please check us out on Instagram at @holygrailgarage

Yeah It's gonna be pretty low, it already has a 3 1/2" narrow beam with adjusters and dropped spindles now the straight axle goes into effect. But as far as custom goes that's where it ends no cutting into the body AT ALL! Thanks for the 411 on the torsion bars. |

Cutting the body isn't usually necessary. You can get dramatically low without tubbing, etc. Most of the guys who tub the front don't really gain much in getting lower, you are still limited by the height of your steering box. _________________ Please check us out on Instagram at @holygrailgarage

I find this question very enteraining! You're working on someone elses BUS but don't know if pulling the torsion out was a bad thing. Hmmm maybe you shouldn't be working on a customers bus. |

On trick I use is when I pop the spring plates off the stops I take a tape measure and reference the distance from a known point, like the top bolt hole to the top of the fender. Measuring both sides and writing it down.. Another trick is on the rubber bushing, I use Talcom powder to help get the cover back on. _________________ - JHC de Tejas - |

EvilBus, what type of backing plates and drums are you or have you used for the straight axle conversion? I have some backing plates and drums off a 1965 Squareback will these work? |
