I am a VW toy collector with a good sized collection. Mostly Stuff made within the last 25 years but I do have some vintage toys as well. The main problems I have regarding the vintage stuff is I live in the middle of VW nowhere and that there are practicaly no local places to buy, and a lack of knowledgable collectors in my area. So I am just kind of worndering what kind of a resource the Samba could be for me. I need the most help with toys from the KDF era to the late '70s.

I also have a sizable collection of toys and other VW memorabilia
Most of my stuff came off e-bay. One needs to careful there. It seems like
everybody's stuff is "extremely rare and valuable."
And be careful because e-bay can be addicting
The Toy And Literature show at the Classic is another place where I have
found some of my treasures.

I am in the same boat as you, large collection in the middle of VW nowhere. I have found that if you hit all the antique shops, flea markets and junk stores in the area. You would be suprised on what you can find. I was VERY disappointed with the toy and lit show this year at the classic. Too many new toy venders that have a 500% markup on toys they just bought at Wallyworld. _________________ Looking for a 58 euro hardtop! |

I have had my fair share of the e-bay addiction I have got some good deals off of the bay though. I am quite a long distance from most of the bigger shows. So most of those are out of my range. As far as the flea markets around here.......... in the past year of fairly consistent flea market runs I have come across 3 Vintage VW toys and one was in a decent price range. |

Since I got my zenith blue 67 type 1 in May I picked up a couple of 67 diecast 1/18 models one yellow and one blue..the blue one matches the color of my car pretty good. They are nice models.
Problem for me though is that they are European models..the headlights and bumpers are Euro standard.
If you guys ever run across any 67 Type 1s with American Bumpers (Overriders) and the proper headlights, let me know. |

I've been collecting toys for over 20 years. I only collect vintage tin VWs. Hey Migit, you must have skipped by my table at the classic. I had some great stuff for sale. _________________ Do you want fries with that? |

Do NOT buy VW (especially Karmann Ghia) toys on eBay.
Repeat: do NOT buy.
They are all trash. Garbage. Not good stuff.
Turn off your computer and bid no more. |

You did really well at The Classic Toy and Lit show Chuck. People loved your stuff. (but they passed on it at Solvang?) It takes that "special" show to bring out the toy collectors. In March, the LAX show is such a show. _________________ "What a fool believes he sees, no wise man has the power to reason away." Dobee, Dobee, Do |

Lots of the late stuff from wallys; g-rides, old schools, even nice busses and promos. Seems no-one else looks for the vw stuff.
A few '67 road tough and franklin mint cars.
Lots of goodwill cars in various condition. I do some custom with wheels from other cars and slam them good.
My best right now is a 1/18 microbus I finally got. I look for any microbus I can find cause they never did really make the car. _________________ cars come and go, VW's live and breathe! |

Probably good advice, even as a broad generality.

Hey, Dan:
Seriously, I've had hundreds of good experiences on eBay.
I've actually had NO bad deals.
Sometimes I pay too much, but I've NEVER run into a bad seller.
Keep the computer on and have fun with it.

No its true. E-bay is E-vil
And more addicting than crack
Seriously speaking though, I have only been realy stiffed once on e-bay ..
And have only left negative feed back twice.
So, over all, E-bay has been good.
Dan
