But I have owned a few VWs over the years....

I actually haven't had that many cars. I'm 21 now and have been driving for 5 years. I've owned:
66 Beetle (gone, but definitely not forgotten)
85 Ford Thunderbird (biggest POS I have owned..but it was cheap)
67 Beetle with metal sunroof (just sitting for now until I can tackle that project)
72 Super that was Baja'd (only drive it in the summer)
88 Chevy Corsica (not too bad but not a VW)
96 Ford Contour (man, I hate Fords)
I still have the 67 Beetle, the 72 Super, and the Contour _________________ VW-less right now...looking

OK
I'm 25. Been driving for 10 years (Has it been that long?)
68 Plymouth Fury III (free, total sh*tbox caught on fire and burned out in auto shop class)
72 Dodge Challenger ($500 Owner felt so bad after selling to me that he tried to steal it back that night! Sold for $1500 6 mos later, and I never did get it running!)
78 Camaro Z-28 (Totaled while drag racing 48 hours after purchase. Total brake faliure but what do you expect for $500)
84 F-150 SWB 4WD ($500. Shot in the door w/a 12 ga. by accident. UGLY. sold back for the same $500)
81 Chevy Silverado SWB ($2000. Nice when I got it, left for dead 20 mi. east of Columbus OH)
61 Lincoln Continental (Bought out of a barn for $1000 in Zanesville OH to replace the Chevy. I have to say that the Lincoln was tough as nails. had for 2 years then some drunk kid T-Boned it in Shreveport LA. I still drove it home and sold it for $2000)
58 Caddy series 62 ($500 from body shop $800 2 mos later. Car was a TOTAL basket case)
68 Olds Cutlass (Bought for 300 bucks from a kid who couldn't put a front brake drum on. No kidding! 15 min of work and I drove it home. Sold a week later for 2000!)
72 Plymouth Sport Fury (Free from garage. rusty and ugly but had a console, buckets, and a 400. Sold for $900
71 Datsun 510 wgaon. Free from friend (parts runner for all the cars piling up at my house Died from lack of care. I didn't cry about it. Sold for $100 to the salvage yard.
66 Pontiac Bonneville $2000 (Bought while I was in the Army, rusty but Black and mean! Shackled up, straight pipes, 389, ex-wife hated it, so I got a divorce. Sold to a body man for $2000 used that money to buy guess what?)
56 Volkswagen Beetle $2000 (Found on thesamba. I had a friend in the service that had brought one of these back from Germany. Never been into foreign cars and didn't have much respect for VW's at first but I learned different. We drove the hell out of that car and it always got us where we needed to go. I bought mine in New Mexico and drove it back to Houston w/no problems. I've said this about a lot of my cars but this time I really want to keep the car I've got. But then again, tempation, temptation! _________________ Keep on rockin' in the free world!

For the record, I've been driving for about ten years now. That averages to not quite a VW per year.

Superskim, easy for you to say being from texas.......do you have any idea what its like trying to find a drivable 30 year old car in new england? Does not happen. They don't even title cars after ten years in new hampshire where I grew up....they don't last much longer when half the year the roads are covered with sand and salt. _________________ KK4NTP
