My new garage. 25x26 with 8ft. walls. Waiting on doors and meeting with electrician today to discuss electrical. Thinking 2 outlets on each wall, 4 led strip lights - spacing them favored toward the back of the building; flush mounted to steel members. Outdoor gooseneck lights over the side door and one centered over the pull up doors.

Sounds like a plan. Just remember, the more outlets, the better. _________________ 1973 standard, yellow, lowered, 3” narrowed front, 1600 blo-thru turbo w/single dell 15.4@86, so far

I'd suggest wiring a couple dedicated 30A 110v outlet and at least one 22Ov outlets for compressor/welder/plasma cutter. _________________ Kafer_Mike

Outlets on ceiling. Hang 8 led lights around edges and along center, using individual pull string switches.... all the lights you need, where you need it without running everything. _________________ "A life of peace and happiness depends on your own gratefulness" |

That's a great idea. _________________ 1971 Super Beetle & 1971 Karmann Ghia

I wired mine in three rows with three switches. That way I can just light up one side where my main bench is, or light up the whole shop if needed.
Also, more outlets than seems necessary, and place them up high to clear any work benches. Set the bottom of the outlet at four feet from the ceiling, that way if you hang sheeting on the walls, you only have three cuts to make it around the outlet. Saves mud and tape time if you hang drywall, too. _________________ nothing |

I get the 220 stuff, but I'm curious. Why 30 amps of 110?
Dedicated, multiple 20 amp circuits makes sense, but I don't get the 30 amps? _________________

Flexibility to run 110v welders/plasma cutters and compressors. Many of the 140 amp welders and 50 amp plasma cutter manufacturers recommend 30 amp breakers to keep it from tripping too often. Same for some of the larger 110v compressors. They all list 20 amp as the "minimum". For <$50 difference in the breaker and wire (10 guage vs.12 guage) for a 25' run, I would install the dedicated 30 amp circuits. _________________ Kafer_Mike

Spent the morning cleaning up the workbench area. So I should share it before it gets messy again!

I spy an old friend there... RHD American spec Ragtop with a Judson.
The story of that car is so good. One of my all time favorite VW's. Looks like she's in a good home. Thought she ended up in Tennessee for some reason. |
