Pushed the radiator and fan right into the engine.

So the body shop states that none of these parts are available, and they would have to secure them from third parties.

Anybody been in this position before how did you handle it with your insurance company?

Man that sucks. Glad you’re ok, I have a huge flock of turkeys with multiple alpha toms in my neighborhood ( I am very fortunate to live next to a large urban woodland)- some of them are huge!

RT 43 auto parts advertises here with late models available for parts. There’s some other yards that do so to sometimes.

You may be in a situation where they total it, you buy back, then get the parts. I’d be talking to a local body shop the kind that has been owned and operated by the same family for decades if there’s one local to you. They are likely more honest and experienced with owners who have esoteric car relationships.

How did you know how fast the turkey was going?

No doubt it got lost when it’s Tom Tom broke

These parts are absolutely available... Heritage shows them in stock. I just had some interior panels shipped from them last week in fact.
Your shop just doesn't know where to look, or is not interested in looking.

Thankfully they are buying everything from the same place in Carrollton Ohio that advertises on the Samba. Still waiting to hear on the insurance claim.

They’ve called in an independent appraiser - I guess to make sure it’s worth fixing.

Be very careful - many insurance companies (not sure who you have it insured with) will be quick to write off a vehicle and then cut you a check. Independent appraisers are a good intermediary, but often aren't on point with specialty vehicles though they may specialize in particular brands/generations.

You should already be doing your due-diligence to find comparable replacement vehicles to demonstrate that your vehicle can/cannot be replaced for the cost of an appropriate repair.

Without laying a hand on your van, hoods, grilles, rad supports, rads, fan units etc are all available both used, new, aftermarket, and OEM.

If you have a good body shop that works with appraisers, or better yet, are appraisers, themselves, it can go a long way to avoiding a total.

Thanks everybody for your input!

The appraiser has approved the $4000 estimate for repairs. The first and most important thing will be getting the radiator, shroud and fans assessed and then the body panels of course.

Anybody out there got some upper radiator mounts/grommets?

Part number is 201121275.

Apparently they flew off when the turkey hit and the body shop can’t find them anywhere. They’re calling route 43 next.

You need to verify that PN. I checked it, it doesn't come up valid.

My fault, I fat fingered a couple of the numbers.

Good news is that the repair shop found these at Route 43 and they are being sent free of charge.
