The existing (original?) rear shift rod bushing in my bus looks great. No wear that I can see. Do I replace it since I’m in here or is the old stuff better? The new one seems garbage - the circular tab thingy is too large for the shaft hole so would need to be modified to get it to fit.

The front one absolutely has wear so I will be replacing that one…

The birdies have plastic tits on the inside. These tits fit into drilled holes in the rod. I’ve had to modify the tits at times for better fit and then use channel locks to squeeze them in.

I, too, discovered the fitment of the tits. Like you, I squeezed them down into the hole.

I guess what I’m asking is, is the quality of the original, unworn birdie better than a new one?

On rigs with just the two birdies, I would added the third, but otherwise would live with the originals if they looked good. All the birdies do is keep the rod somewhat centered to keep it for vibrating against the steel tube.
