Currently installing 1997 1.9AAZ Golf engine into 1990
Toyota Hilux Surf. Fired up for the first time today with zero issues (that anyone saw). Ran for a few minutes then shuddered and died. Lack of fuel, Hilux's do not have a fuel delivery pump but do have a primer pump on the fuel filter. Pumped primer and restarted with no issue, but shuddered again. Quickly pressed primer and engine ran fine again. Question is, do the AAZ injection pumps have a lift pump? How does one verify if its functioning? Thanks in advance for any trouble shooting advice. |

First, this should be in the watercooled section...
The injection pump does the pulling of fuel from the tank. A low psi fuel pump will probably fix it if the pump is weak, which sounds like a possibility.
Do you know the history of the engine and pump? |
