Hello,
I own a 1975 Rabbit. It came from factory with the very rare rear chrome strip across the back hatch.
I am looking for the clips that hold on the rear chrome piece. It is #20 in the diagram picture.
I will attach some photos of the clips
Any help from some of you who may have these laying around would be HUGE! Thank you in advance and I hope you can help
I’m looking for the part number or the parts themselves anything will help. |

Please check and try see if the following are suitable for your application:
#133 853 585
#133 853 585 C
In the meantime I will note this and the next week will inquire what PN it is #20 and #21 |

From the looks of it, those seem to be plastic clips. I’ve been told some plastic clip might sit inside the metal one, but from a google image search, those part numbers are not the metal clip but rather a plastic clip. Thank you for the reply I really appreciate it. Any more help would be much appreciated. |

Okay, there's some bad news and good news.
As you may know this better than anyone else, this trim and his parts aren't as common as many other body fittings.
The bad news is that #19 and #20 no longer can be sourced from Volkswagen, their importers and dealers. It is no longer supported, then a corresponding Part-Number isn't available.
This doesn't mean there aren't NOS parts somewhere, that will be the hard task for someone to uncover, since Part-Numbers are unknown at the moment...
On the other hand, there are some good news: #21 is still available trough Volkswagen Classic Parts and it is 155 853 585
May I suggest if you can try the suitability of using double-face 3M tape on this application. Hey, I know it is kind of silly-wonky job but we want cars back on the road! 😁 |

Unfortunately, that’s the answer I’m finding all over the place haha. I’m hoping someone, somewhere in the world has these clips that they are willing to sell to me. They’ve got to exist out there SOMEWHERE, hahaha.
There are two types on these chrome strips. The very early ones are like the side clips and only have two very small contact points, so I wouldn’t really trust the 3M tape with such a small contact point. The later style strips were stuck on like that from factory.
I REALLY hope someone out there has these hiding on a back shelf somewhere hahaha |
