I installed a new FTE master cylinder a few years ago and now I am getting ready to do a brake system flush (2 year maintenance interval). I want to wipe gunk out of the reservoir but they make it hard to remove the screen in the reservoir neck. On my old master this just lifted out but on this FTE one there are slots on the screen piece that need to line up with tabs on the neck for removal. But they don’t line up no matter how I rotate the screen. See photo with slots circled in red and tabs in blue.

Is there a trick to getting this thing out? I suppose I could cut one of the tabs with a razor blade but that seems extreme.

You probably already tried it but can you insert a tiny short flat screwdriver into the blue holes and pop it?

Yeah after trying with all manner of prying and twisting tools I eventually gave up and mangled it to get it out. I think there is some sequence of pulling up and turning that will work but it’s hard to do upside down in the dark with nothing much to hold onto.

May reuse it or try to see if my screen from the old master will fit.
