Here is the size of the gasket that was shorter.

Keep in mind I heated it up then let it dry, so what ever it is, it was worse.

Thickness .1500 Wide .2975

Open curved area from the metal VC to the gasket .1510

Same MFG Elring

Sorry for the delay, Classic steel body is the only one selling steel core gaskets. Just google classic steel body valve cover gaskets and it should come up. Don’t know how to post the link😬

Here it is

https://classicsteelbody.com/products/valve-cover-gasket-set-vw-1600-engine

Cool! so its 1.5mm or cork on each side of a 22 gauge (0.7mm) thick sheet steel core.

Nope, made by Awesome Powder Coatings. Looks like Classic is a reseller. https://coloradosprings.gov/erap

I use a silicon based grease. Most common silicone greases I have around the shop are Permatex Dielectric grease or AGS Sil-Glyde disc caliper grease. Both work great for cork gaskets and o-rings.

I will try that next time I need to do some gaskets. Sounds like a winner.

Thanks!

Today I received two sets of valve gaskets from JBUGS and they fit perfect.

No clue as to the MFG but it fits? Elring is the one that has the spaces in my photo with it in the cover.

I am in Phoenix at the moment and getting home tomorrow. Will test and post next week. Ray

OK and the winner is Gasgacinch Gasket Sealer. Never heard of the stuff, and still can't undersand the reason I was having a leak problem after using many sealers.

I thought it was so old snake oil fix. Not !!! It seals like glue and it peels off like rubber.

So thank you guys for telling me about Gasgacinch ( I am from DA BRONX ) I can't even pronounce it!!!

Been using for Gasgacinch on the V covers for 47 years. Would not even consider anything else.

I’ve been using the blue striped Fel-Pro from Autozone on my T1 engines. Like Glenn I use Permatex aviation to the valve cover only, stock valve cover and bail. These have been working great for me.

Somewhere in this thread, Ray Greenwood asked me to measure the thickness of these blue stripe, FelPro gaskets. They are 3.35 mm thick.

I just put a head on my boss and I’m about to order another set from AutoZone to have my garage.

I just got 4 from NAPA for 7.16 total after AAA discount. They are Victor Reinz. My new zero-mile EMPI 1776 engine both valve covers leaked horribly since first start, they were glued to the cover from EMPI crooked, so they made a mess. I cleaned them, used Right Stuff to hold the new Cork gasket to the cover and now the leak is totally gone, not a drop. Part Number Below.

VALVE COVER GASKET
Part #: ATM 113101481F
Qty: 4 $7.16
$1.99 /each
