(‘72 Bus)The question is not related to any problem experienced. Operation seems smooth and normal. I have the engine out and am wondering whether to pull the shift rods to clean and replace the bushings as a matter of course. Given the sometimes shoddy parts quality…better to leave well enough alone? _________________ ‘72 Karmann Ghia Conv.

That’s a tough call but you could at the least remove, clean, lube, and reinstall the shift rod. _________________ Lead Mechanic: San Diego Air and Space Museum

That confirms my feeling. I’ll just pull, check and go from there. Thanks. _________________ ‘72 Karmann Ghia Conv.

It’s one of the bushings for the shift rod. It looks like the badminton “birdie”. _________________ ‘72 Karmann Ghia Conv.

I believe that VW issued a service bulletin for adding another birdie _________________ Lead Mechanic: San Diego Air and Space Museum
