I'm installing floor pans in my 62 beetle, that I plan to show, and I was thinking of removing the jack mounts since I never plan to use the mounts and because in my opinion they're an eye sore. Will the removal affect the judging?

Depends on the show, I guess. If they want original, they want to see them. If it's for non-stock then the lack of them might be a plus.

I'm not sure what brand pans you have (hopefully better than the repro's I bought), but I can't even fit my jack into jack points that are on mine. Can't really answer your question about judging, but if others say they need to stay, you could always buy those hubcap pullers (bearclaws) to make the jack points look a little nicer.

I agree that it depends on the show. Missing a detail like that at our shows could cost you points if the removal was poorly done. Having it in place wouldn't make all that much of a difference. Overall finish and workmanship counts for a lot.

The chrome bear claws do look kind of nice. I have them on mine:

By the way, if you ever have to change a tire on the road, how are you going to jack up your car without those jack points?

It dosn't just depend on the show, it also depends on the class or catagory you want to be judged in.

If all Stock, then it may hurt you if the judges are good and notice.

If custom, anything goes.

I don't know if anyone noticed, but the vintage (63?) beetle that VW is using on their new advertising is missing the jack points

I have no idea if these are correct. But these are the two current reproduction parts manufacturers in the samba classifieds selling the "jack points".

I say yes for the jack points. If I saw a Bug without, Id be thinking, oh gawd, is that ever bad. no offense to you, just is that is bad. instal them, they is part of the car, dont look bad, and they serve a good purpose. There are dress up chrome inserts that can be inserted into them for that nice look by the way, I have seen that

There are also plan round chrome plugs, and iron cross style as seen on ebay currently, Sellers on samba have them also sometimes, do a search, even a wolfberg crest plug I have seen.

The ones on samba are around 12 bucks each, not too bad, plus some also serve as a hub cap remover tool. Good deal.
