When either the set or switch are activated on the stalk, should the red/yellow wire to the cruise control module continue to be powered?
My mechanic reports that there is momentary power when those switches are activated But when the switch is released the power stops.
What is normal? |

Probably a deep engine management software question, which requires more information like model year, engine code, and engine management software (geography dependent) to address.
If your mechanic doesn’t know those, s/he won’t troubleshoot this very well. _________________ .ssS! |

All good points, thank you.
It’s a 1997 European camper, Winnebago conversion. It has the 2.8 12-valve VR6 (AES). I am not 100% certain on the other data referenced.
By engine management software, do you mean OBD II? I have a Ross Tech cable and software for VCDSl lite which has worked really well. |

I'm not sure if engine management plays a role in cruise on the 12v VR6s and earlier models. The cruise appears to be similar to that found on lots of older VWs, including the Vanagon. Those are stand alone systems and the usual failure points are the brake/clutch switches. A bad/failing brake switch would quickly shutoff the module and actuator shortly after receiving a signal from the switch. _________________ Casey--

You can test all the buttons on your cruise control stalk using vag com. (VCDS).
You can also test the switches on the clutch and brake using the same software. Also. You can check the vehicle speed using again, vag com. I troubleshooted my non functioning cruise control this way. Every switch was fine. But my vehicle speed was zero on a drive with a buddy monitoring the vag com. Sitting in passenger seat. It turned out I had a bad connection at the vehicle speed sensor on the transmission. Fixed that issue. Boom, cruise control working perfectly. |

Thank you, everybody. I just ordered the cable from Ross Tech that will give me full OBD II.
I’m excited to run those tests and see what I find out. |

I think its Motronic 2.3.2 on the early AES VR6 engine - but this should be confirmed _________________ .ssS! |

Is there a reference that walks me through using the VCDS and esp for checking the processes of parts that make cruise work?[/quote] |
