What years does this fit up to?
And how much should I pay?

Ghias are my thing and I don't think lowlights ever had the round regulator, but, Iv'e been wrong many times before.

| Round Regulators are for 54-55 oval or barndoor bus in good condition used $50-$60, new $100 if you go to sell PM me as I am in the hunt for one |

so initially the voltage regulator was D, skip a year, and then to square in 1956?

"D" shaped voltage regulators, then 1954-55 "round" regulators, then in Aug 1955 (for the new 1956 models came the most common "square"-shaped regulators...
I'm not sure what pricing is for round regulators nowadays in 2024. I don't think they have been reproduced, so they might be expensive. My unrestored June of 1955 Oval Sunroof is still running it's original "date-correct" round voltage regulator with a couple more of 'em squirreled away in storage for any needs in the future. Looks like there are three "Bosch" brand (note: two of those can be generator mounted with their "curved" mounting legs and the third one has flat mounting legs). Also there are two aftermarket versions (note: one with curved generator mount legs and one with flat legs) in the classified ads ( https://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/search.php...ton=Search ) at around $100-125 or so... (unknown condition).

the '52 to '56 years were big changes in VW production from the responses i read regarding different OEM equipment. |
