Hey guys, I'm restoring a 36hp engine with my two boys. I have no experience doing this, so that will tell you what a dumb ass I can be while rebuilding this motor.
First thing to know is that I bought a fully rusted 36hp motor with numbers that match the year of my 1957 Oval.
I was trying to cut cylinders off after a week long battle with cylinder heads and I accidentally made a little divit, do you think it will cause any issues?

It looks to me like the tapered sealing surface for the push rod tube seals is intact. Pull out the rubber seal and check the surface. _________________ 1-0900722 die langsame grüne Schildkröte

i can be dumber than you. here goes:
if the engine did not come from the factory IN the vehicle, how do numbers match? (assuming it's serial numbers)
or is it just the horsepower & cubic centimeters you are referring to?
and kudos for spending some "shop time" with your sons. if more Dads did this, the world would be a better place.
sometimes it's the journey and not the destination that's important.

I popped the seal out and it looks perfect, barely missed it. Does that mean the case is ok? I hate that I made those slices in the case. |

Oh yes, so sorry what I meant is that the motor is from the same time period so as close as I can get to the original without the original. The serial number starts with a 2 and is 36hp.
Yes my son's and I are learning quite a bit. Right now we are learning some patience lol |

You should be good. Just be sure the sealing area is smooth and not scarred. _________________ Jimbo
