Has anyone bought a battery lately? I need a good recommendation ? My 74s battery is shot, I'm looking.for plenty of power at a reasonable price to replace the stock battery.
I searched.the forums but most of the battery stuff is outdated.
Thanks |

This is like asking what kind/grade of oil to use, one of those questions where everyone has a different answer. But I recommend 000 915 105 DE from the VW dealer. It's exactly like the 42Ah battery the car came with from new and the VW batteries are very nicely made. They cost more than a Walmart unit. _________________ SL |

If you have a Costco card they have batteries at a good price with a 3 year warranty. I just go in there and find something that fits the hole and has the terminals on the correct location. I bought two batteries for my Beetles about a month ago. I think it was $89 each. There was one smaller one.
Sam's has batteries as well but I've never bought theirs.
The red batteries are nice and do last a long time but I can buy 2 or 3 batteries from Costco for the same price. _________________ www.vwnos.com [email protected]

Original battery size is Group 42. The last one I purchased was from NAPA. Be mindful of the date code on the battery before you purchase it as there are plenty out there that have been sitting on shelves for a while. _________________ '74 Thing

A T5 battery is pretty much an exact replacement for a Group 42 and will likely be more available.
FWIW, our local NW tire shop chain sells a battery with a 7 year warranty, I have been running them for 4 decades and have never lost one under warranty. Won't do you much good in Florida though. |

What brand is it? What do you pay? |
It's the Les Schwab Tire Center, Xtreme Plus house brand, can't say the price at present with the inflation going on, but its competitive with other top end batteries. |

Do you do regular maintenance on it checking the fluid or do you just let it sit? _________________ www.vwnos.com [email protected]

I clean my batteries every year or three adding distilled water if needed. Overall I tend to take care of my electrical systems pretty well, so the batteries and other components don't get overly stressed and leave me sitting dozens of miles away from a paved road.
For comparison the few non Les Schwab batteries I have gotten over the years have not done particularly well. |
