more fuel pump questions

Just wondering here. I just replaced the fuel pump on my '74. Replaced the (wrong) alternator style pump with the ( correct) generator style pump. When both pumps were on the bench I noticed the alternator style pump rod had a smaller diameter tip with a flat nose. The generator style rod had a thicker tip and a round nose.

Why are they not the same? They both ride on the same drive cam.

First off an Alternator type pump with work with an alternator and a generator. A Generator type pump fits only a generator.

The generator pump uses a 108mm long rod, the alternator uses a 100mm rod.

Both rods should be the same, other than the length.

Aftermarket rods are crap and all different dimensions. So I assume your rods are aftermarket so the diameter and shape of the tip will vary.
