So, last night's jetting endevor didn't quite go as planned...
I stepped the idles down from 55s to 50. I set the "lean best idle" and the right side was a little... different. No worries
Obviously it ran, but it went from "pig rich" to borderline too lean, popping & missing at anything much over idle... WTF?
I got home & went to put the 55s back in and found I'd damaged, err cut, one of the orings!! DAMMIT!!
Back to the drawing board. "hello? FLAPS? Got any o-rings for Weber type carbs?" _________________

Weber part number for the idle jet o-ring is 41565.002. You may be able to locate the dimensions and/or cross-reference. If I had one, I'd just mail it to you. _________________ Kafer_Mike

Thanks for the kind offer Mike. I work at a facility that has a cabinet full of viton and buna orings. I have a "dime bag" full of assorted sizes for tonight. _________________

Small update:
I spent a small fortune on an assortment of jets, all smaller than I already had in the carbs. Special thanks to CB Performance & that auction site.
I started out with 55/160/200/F11 and 36 vents. I want to tell you that it was straight forward and simple. I also want to tell you that I wrote down each & every change, so I know for sure what I have Sadly, I just kept changing stuff 'till I got a satisfactory result.
I ended up with 55/155/210/F11 with 36 vents.
I found that my 3 wire (narrow band) a/f gauge might not have been 100% accurate. In the end, I was just looking for what the car wanted.
Be safe.
ETA: I might still try the F7 tubes, just for kicks _________________

I know ever carb jetting is different and depends on geographic location and elevation.
I'm at around 900' elevation. My 2165cc with 44 IDF's has 36 vent, 52.5i, 150m, 200a, F11. I always jet for 12.7 A/F at wide open throttle and never worry about anything else.
A big time VW guru told me to use f11 tubes for duals up to 40mm venturies and F2's for 40mm & larger venturies. Use F7 tubes for single carb set-ups. _________________ 2017 Street Comp Champion - Thunder Valley Raceway Park - Noble, OK

Thanks Dave.
That's the first time I've heard that about the tubes. Interesting.
The info that I gleened from John's (aircooled.net) posts was
Quote: |
E tubes F7 richens the mixture up at the bottom of the RPM range and under acceleration, while the F11 leans the mixture out on the top end a little bit

So! What might be the FINAL Bug-O Rama is coming to Sacramento Raceway this weekend.
I can't let it go without giving it a go. For the first time since the '70s I will be on the drag strip!
Summit just needs to get my harness delivered before Saturday morning!
See y'all there. Be safe! _________________

Crap,
I forgot to mention that my Mrs. took a Saturday day trip to Columbia state park https://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=552 (old gold mining town in the foothills of California) and had a great time. It's been years since we went last, but it is still a worthy trip for anyone interested in that era of history.

We used to go to Columbia when I was a kid. We dropped in last November. First time I had been back in over 40 years, and it was very much the same.

Sounds like I'm pulling the plug on racing the last Bug-O-Rama.
My shoulder straps won't be here untill after the event... on Wednesday FFS!
Maybe I see you in the car show area. _________________

Wished I would have seen this before the event. You could have used the Simpson belts from my class 9 car. We didn't race this weekend. |

Thanks very much for the kind offer!
But I had bigger problems than the seat belts, so it turns out...
If I was racing a sedan, and went slower than 13 seconds, I could do it in shorts & flip flops and not even a helmet, as long as I didn't have a sun roof. Being a buggy (at any speed) I would have needed a full NHRA spec roll cage AND the seat belts, drivers suit, boots and gloves, and, yes, a helmet.

Just to clarify the NHRA rules, NHRA does not allow shorts and flip flops in any class no matter how slow the car is. All drivers are required to wear shirts with sleeves, long pants, and full shoes that cover the entire foot. Any car running faster than 14.00 is required to wear a helmet.
Yes, all dune buggy and sand rails regardless of how slow they are, the minimum requirement is at least a roll bar, 5 point racing harness, 1 layer fire jacket, arm restraints, gloves, and a full faced helmet. When you run faster than 11.50 the safety requirements gets more advanced. _________________ 2017 Street Comp Champion - Thunder Valley Raceway Park - Noble, OK

I never understood why anyone on a race track, even a drag strip, going any speed would not wear a helmet. Cracked me up last year Bugorama the bugs running the strip with tshirt and no helmet. |

You are not required to wear a helmet when driving your car on any public road. Some slower cars can legally run faster on a public road then in a 1/4 or 1/8 mile drag race at the track. You probably have a much higher chance of crashing on a public road than at a drag strip.
My Karmann Ghia with a 2165cc only runs 72 MPH in the 1/8th. There are turnpikes around here where the speed limit is 80 MPH. _________________ 2017 Street Comp Champion - Thunder Valley Raceway Park - Noble, OK
